College Sun

Asked about solar at the local university. The local power company offers net metering for up to 15kw. A few parking garages went up over the last year or so on campus. Possibly an opportunity for solar on them. The stats for a 1.92kw system on a roof at a local zoo.

Until gas gets to 10 bucks a gallon, people just dont care.

In my experience people don't care until they see a direct impact. For me when my truck died this year I got a smaller car. While I probally should have gotten a smaller car in the first place (12 years ago) it wasn't until this 4 bucks a gallon that the expense of another truck hit home. Have you seen all the unpurchased new trucks in the lots? People are coming around one small step at a time. For instance I didn't leap to hybrid or something even since I was only affording new and the new tech isn't on the used lot yet.

Now on this solar panel on the parking lot thing. It's not for the cars, other than shade. It is just for the net metering it would earn over the life of the parking structure. Now someday electric cars might be powered by solar but now there just isn't enough electric cars to consider it. Espically from college students driving older vechicles like I do.
